Active Commuting for an Active Lifestyle

Staying active on a daily basis can prove challenging for most of us. Between work, rest, meetings, and appointments there’s not much time left for exercise.

But, what if I told you that with just a little planning, plus the will to commit, you can incorporate exercise into your morning commute?

Active Commuting for an Active Lifestyle

Active commuting means getting to and from work in an active way. This could be walking, running, biking, scootering, or whatever gets your heart rate up!

When you start to actively commute, don't feel like you need to commit to using muscle power for the entire journey. As with anything physical, active commuting is a process that is meant to start small. You can drive part way and walk or bike the rest, or simply commit to actively commuting a few days a week.

Just remember, start small, don't be too hard on yourself, and enjoy the challenge! Here are some of our favourite ways of active commuting:

Biking

Biking improves cardiovascular and aerobic fitness, builds muscle, and improves coordination, lowers blood pressure, and boosts energy! Cycling to work can be so enjoyable it almost feels like cheating!

Walking

Walking is not only good for your health and the environment, it can also save you money. Think about the cost of driving to work; you could cut this by half or more when you choose to walk.

Scootering

Though it's still emerging in North America, commuting by scooter is huge in Europe. E-scooters and e-bikes are a great alternative to using your car while still getting your heart rate up. The big benefit with these modes of transportation is that you have a motor to help you out on those longer commutes!

Running

Running to work can be a bit of a sweaty endeavour without the right tools. If you work in a facility with a shower or wash basin, try keeping a change of clothes at work. Then you can run to the office, freshen up, and be ready for your day!
